A modern alternative to QuickBooks.
MillHQ is an ERP for small businesses that make, build and sell physical products. We are building accounting, inventory, purchasing and production into one system.
No spam. One email when it is ready, and nothing else.
The problem
You want a better option than QuickBooks, and the alternatives cost more than the problem.
Desktop software in a browser world.
QuickBooks Desktop runs on a computer or server in your office, or on a hosted remote desktop. QuickBooks Online runs in a browser, but it does not do assemblies, multiple warehouses, or lot and serial tracking.
The upgrade is a cliff.
The usual next step is a mid-market ERP. That typically means a much bigger subscription, a separate implementation project, and an outside consultant to keep it running.
Bolt-ons instead of a system.
An inventory add-on here, a reporting tool there, each syncing on its own schedule and each with its own version of the numbers.
What we are building
One system for the whole operation.
This is what MillHQ is being built to do. None of it is released yet.
Accounting
A full double-entry general ledger, receivables, payables, banking and reconciliation. Real books, not a summary.
Inventory
Multiple locations and bins, average or FIFO cost, lot and serial tracking, and landed cost.
Purchasing
Purchase orders, partial receipts, vendor bills, and reorder suggestions based on what you actually sell.
Sales
Estimates, sales orders, fulfilment and invoicing, with backorders handled properly.
Production
Multi-level bills of materials, builds, and work orders that keep inventory and cost correct.
Reporting
Every report exports to Excel with the numbers in cells and the totals intact. Click any figure to see what is behind it.
Side by side
MillHQ and QuickBooks, side by side.
QuickBooks is really two products. QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is Windows software, sold in Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond editions. QuickBooks Online runs in a browser. MillHQ is not released yet, so everything in its column is planned.

What QuickBooks does better today: it is proven, your accountant already knows it, and almost any bookkeeper can be hired to run it. We are building for the businesses that want a better option.
Edition details come from Intuit’s published product and help pages, as of September 2026. Intuit also sells Intuit Enterprise Suite, a separate cloud product this table does not cover.
QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc. MillHQ is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Intuit.
Who it is for
Built for businesses that make things.
MillHQ is for companies whose inventory is physical and whose margins depend on counting it right.
- Small manufacturers and assemblers
- Distributors and wholesalers
- Roughly 5 to 100 employees
- Selling direct, through dealers, and on marketplaces
If you have never counted a shelf, this is probably not for you.
Why us
Why we are building it.
We spent fifteen years running operations before we wrote a line of code. In that time we watched good businesses stay on software they disliked, because everything else cost more than the problem it solved.
MillHQ is the system we wanted then: built for the people who receive the stock, build the orders and close the month, not only for the accountant at year end.
Our custom software work has not changed. For most businesses we still build alongside the systems they already have. MillHQ is for the ones that want a better option than QuickBooks, in one system.
